So last year we did garden, but I must not have updated things here. I planted some different carrots, some beets, garlic, peppers and some pumkins. Everything came out okay but the pumpkins which I think I planted to late.

This year I am hoping to plant the following:

So in years past I was able to simply put my little garden in on the side of the house in a simple raised bed. Each year I would focus on one or two plants and kind of play around to see what happened. About three years ago up the street a group called 490 Farmers created a space where they rent out raised beds for city residents. So this year I decided I would rent a plot. This basically doubled the area that I have to grow stuff in. I have an entire 4x8 foot space to play with.

So the 19th was a pretty boring day. The weather was really crummy and overcast so it was really a stay in day. Started out the morning as normal with feeding the cat and the sourdough starter. Then off to work and answering emails and helping people out where I can online. I checked in on my class as well and noticed at least a few students had logged in and started on their assignment. So that was promising. I finished up at work and then read a bit more and watched some Youtube. I am realizing more and more how much I miss being at work and interacting with the students.

Well maybe not as happy as it could be. All restaurants and bars are shutdown here in New York. The Saint Patrick's day parade was postponed last weekend, but hopefully people are taking this seriously now. According to what we are reading in the news we are 10 days behind Italy in the outbreak of COVID-19 here in the United States. Based on that and what is happening here in Rochester I wonder if we will be able to "flatten the curve".

Yesterday was somewhat uneventful. We worked around the house and I am lining up things to do that I haven't tackled yet because they tend to be boring and time consuming. For example I wanted to wipe a few of the hard drives that I have around. So I figured right now was a good time to do that. My plan is to get up daily around 6:30 and work on school work between 8 and 11 this will keep me sane and give me something to do.

So we are officially being affected by the pandemic here in Rochester NY. They have closed our Counties schools today for an undetermined amount of time. So today we headed out to the Public Market and grabbed some food since all of the supermarkets are being overwhelmed by people going a little overboard with buying toilet paper. Then we headed to our local pet store to grab some cat food then to the local Coop that we belong to. It was pretty amazing there to see all of the people shopping. We grabbed a few additional items that we knew we needed for upcoming meals and then headed home.

Here we go off into 2020. I already have some Garlic planted and I am thinking of raising some lavender from seed later this year. Beyond that I am just looking at keeping the Strawberries going and finding some that are ever bearing so I can actually get them to bear fruit beyond June and keep our neighbourhood birds fed. Marigolds are also something that I want to plant again. I don't know why but they seem to make me happy when they bloom. The weird thing this year was that they didn't actually bloom until later in the season.

So I was trying to update the site once again, prepping to move to Drupal 8 as it were. However, at some point during the process I was a little too confident and didn't move content the way I should of. This lead to a white screen in Drupal. This usually means that the sys admin messed up, and I knew that was the case. So I scratch my head and started to shuffle backups and couldn't fix it. I knew it was time to walk away. That was about 3 months ago and as of today I have things back where I think they should be.

So I have been looking through my web site debating what to write about in the last few weeks and I keep either pulling up older posts or starting new post thinking I will complete writing them. There always seems to be a desire to write, but not the will to actually put the pen to the paper. I also often times think about why am I writing this at all? As my wife would say "no one is reading this." So am I just writing for the sake of it? Regardless I think that is okay.

So I have transitioned to a new job, but that hasn't stopped me from wanting to learn some of the things that I had been trying to do at my last job. One of those things was to learn Ansible, which is a way to automate some of the deployments for systems. I was looking at how could I use it to manage the Linux workstations that we were using. So I had been playing with it at Home, and finally have it working in some basic deployment situations. So far making sure that I have certain packages installed.
